About the founder
I’m Colby Fedock, the person behind Equant Technologies. I’ve wanted to be a lawyer since I was a kid, and I’ve been interested in technology for just as long.
Games and design
I spent a lot of my childhood playing online games. I was especially interested in their economies and how people negotiated. In middle school, I tried to teach myself Java so I could run a private server. That attempt didn’t get very far, but I kept wanting to learn how the software worked.
I’ve always drawn, too. My family appreciated design, and in high school I wanted to start a clothing company. I couldn’t afford to launch it, but I kept designing. I still spend free time working on clothing ideas and digital artwork.
The technology behind a case
A moot court assignment involved a claim against an autonomous-vehicle manufacturer. I got so interested in researching how its sensors worked that I almost didn’t finish my appellate brief.
My favorite class, Legal Issues in Electronic Commerce, explored the legal questions surrounding software and digital businesses. I wanted to keep learning about that work after graduating.
Working inside technology companies
At Ezoic, an advertising technology company, prospecting meant reviewing thousands of websites a week. I started noticing patterns in how sites were designed and how those differences related to traffic. I also worked with publishers through technical onboarding and support.
At StrongMind, an education technology company, I worked directly with the CEO in a role combining legal work and process improvement. I reviewed agreements and researched privacy questions while working alongside technical and business teams. I enjoyed helping people with different expertise work through the same problem.
I later became a licensed Arizona attorney and practiced family law in Phoenix. That gave me a closer understanding of how firms operate and what clients are feeling when they first reach out.
Starting Equant
I kept finding things I wanted to build. SaaSpocalypse began as a conversation with a friend and became a research platform with scheduled AI workflows. Keeping it running taught me a lot about where those systems need closer review.
Building websites for law firms gave me a similar satisfaction, especially when someone was excited to put the finished site in front of their clients. I wanted to keep doing that work, which led me to start Equant.
Working with me
I’ll be the person you talk with about the project and the person building it.
You’ll review the work as it develops and control the accounts behind the finished website.
